Deltek Vision 7.1
Deltek Vision 7.1
I'm currently trying out Vision 7.1. What I have noticed right away is that we're now able to efficiently keep track of contracts and change orders. What's impressive is that you're able to assign commission credits(as a percentage) to the staff, for their efforts in obtaining a specific contract or change order. What's even more impressive is that your able to run reports based on this information. When bonus time comes around, this allows you to easily see what each staff member deserves to get.
Check back for updates on this post. I will be trying out the 7.1 version, and will report back with mi findings.

Why I Like and dislike it
Ok, since I'm such a positive person, I would like to start out with why I like it-
1. Easy to use- Once you become familiar with this accounting software, it becomes easy to use.
2. Many "pre-canned" reports are available that are customizable.
3. Allows for many users, and the ability to limit what info they have access to.
4. Very powerful tool.
Reasons why I dislike it-
1. Not easy to use at first- It takes some practice and getting used to. You need to get used to being in the correct period for certain transactions. the good news is that you can un-post most transactions, but you also have to be careful in which period you're in when un-posting. This is important during billing. Say you're in May (but you meant to be in April), if you accidentally transfer April time in the period of May(between projects), there is no way to get it back in to April interactive billing.
2. Expensive-Not too many small businesses can afford to have such expensive program. For those smaller companies planning to upgrading to Vision from QuickBooks, I recommend that you pay for the consulting service to ensure that it gets set up properly. If you skip the proper set up, you will later find that certain reports are impossible to run. Some of the reports may not seem important to you now, but they will be important once your company grows. Aside from all the initial start-up cost, they charge quite a bit for the quarterly maintenance.
3. Requires a lot of customizing- You need to hire someone to do custom programing. If your IT employee knows SQL, that's great, otherwise you will have to pay for custom programing services from Deltek.
I'm sure I will think if more reasons why I like it and dislike it, but that is all for know.
Have you used this software? If so, I would like to hear some feedback from you.
